The Châteaux of the Loire
The term "Châteaux de la Loire" covers all the châteaux along the Loire Valley. Amboise is ideally situated for exploring them. These include the châteaux of Chenonceau and Clos Lucé, as well as the Royal City of Loches, the Château de Rivau, the Royal Fortress of Chinon and the Château de Villandry.
Chenonceau Castle
The Château de Chenonceau is one of the must-see attractions within easy reach of our hotel. The château, which spans the Cher river, is just a 20-minute drive from Amboise. It is always decked out with bouquets that dress and embellish its surroundings thanks to its own floral workshop.
Château du Clos Lucé
The Château du Clos Lucé is certainly not the furthest of the châteaux from our hotel, but it is a must-see nonetheless. The former home of Leonardo da Vinci, it has the particularity of being made of pink bricks, which gives it a very special charm. The castle and its gardens are entirely dedicated to the famous Italian Jack-of-all-trades.
Villandry
Completed in 1536, Villandry is the last of the great châteaux built on the banks of the Loire. All the atmosphere of the Renaissance can be found here in the architecture, the paintings, the tapestries and their skilfully crafted arabesques. The château also owes its great renown to its exceptional terraced gardens on several levels, which surround it like a jewel case: the water garden, the pleasure garden, the vegetable garden...
The Château de Villandry is 40 km from the Manoir Saint Thomas.
